Three PING students graduated in May and are now headed to college with plans to continue with music at New York University, Arizona State University, and Iowa State University.
These dedicated PING musicians participated in private lessons, performing arts trips and ensembles outside the instrumental music classroom. They also gave back as music mentors to other PING students.
Jude
Jude began with PING when he started high school four years ago. An aspiring Jazz pianist and composer, he is off to NYU this fall to receive a jazz performance degree.
Through PING, Jude took piano lessons, went on OPRF Jazz trips and took part in Marching Band, and traveled to Memphis and New Orleans where he performed with OPRF ensembles. He also took part in CYSO Jazz, Jazz Links, and went to Blue Lake and ISYM summer camps.
“Through music, I’ve met so many people, traveled to new places, and had experiences I never would have imagined.”
Hailie
Hailie did it all from playing in both Band and Orchestra at Oak Park and River Forest High School (OPRF) to taking part in Marching Band, Jazz, and Merit School of Music programming in Chicago. She plays violin, cello, flute, and piccolo – all supplied by PING – starting on violin in 4th grade. Hailie built confidence as she grew as a musician and played numerous cello solos at recitals held by her private lesson teacher and led the flutes as section leader of the Marching Huskies.
She took on the world by attending every music trip available to her in high school - playing strings and wind in Memphis and New Orleans, Marching at the Disney World Thanksgiving Day Parade, and bringing her musicianship to Spain this spring. Now she is off to Tempe to attend Arizona State University to study Music Learning and Teaching. PING is thrilled that Hailie is planning to pass on her passion for instrumental music to the next generation.
S.
S. started playing viola in 4th grade with PING. He was both a mentor and a mentee through PING Partners and the PING Mentoring Program (now NextNote).
S. plans to continue to participate in Orchestra at Iowa State where he will be studying mechanical engineering with the hope of working in the railroad industry.
"Having instrumental music in my life has impacted my personal growth and stimulated parts of my brain in a different way from my other studies."
